Singleton of Glendullan 38 YO Special Release 2014 Whiskey 59.8% vol. 0.70l
Rich, smooth and elegant, with all the confidence of age, Singleton of Glendullan is the second cask strength limited edition to be released by The Singleton in this series. Distilled in 1975 and matured in European oak barrels, this fine drop impresses as soon as you open the bottle with its wonderfully fresh scent, which develops in the complex interplay of fresh acidity and grain sweetness.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Reserved at first, then profound;top notes have the light, tangy tone of ripe melon and mango with a squirt of orange juice.Everything looks very soft with a fragrant background reminiscent of perfumed hand cream and the sweet cereal notes of shortcrust pastry.Yeasty and waxy aromas lead to pronounced notes of ripe red apple peel and mint. The scent opens beautifully to aromas of pure vanilla, a summer fruit shop, creamy toffee, milk chocolate oatmeal and thick cream.Spicy cranberry notes develop later. With water, the scent becomes more vague, with a light yet unmistakable note of incense set against an enigmatic scent of pine resin.
Palate: Slightly oily at cask strength and very intense. The malt has a smooth and pungent mouthfeel with the tangy sweet taste of ripe apples or gooseberries and the lingering sweetness of coconut.Everything quickly becomes denser and more rounded. An initially creamy-sweet toffee note darkens and turns into brown caramel until the whole has a pleasant toasty note with bitter overtones.Diluted with water, the flavor remains vibrant and tangy, as the flavor notes combine, the herbal note softens, leaving a warm, sweet malt undertone.
Finish: Medium to long, dry and warming with a slight but overwhelming residual sweetness, fresh fruitiness and a hint of candle wax or sandalwood incense sticks, before later more and more evident pine resin leads to an irresistibly dry finish.
