Buy Glen Scotia 45 Years and expect appreciation
December 23, 1973 was a cold winter day in Campbeltown. It was a historic date for all Glen Scotia fans. On the last day of production before Christmas, the now unique whiskey was distilled and filled into refill bourbon casks. It was on course to become Glen Scotia's oldest original bottling to date. The barrels were taken to the bonded warehouse. Here they rested under professional care for about 37 years under the climatic conditions of Campbeltown. In 2011, the single malt Scotch whiskey was transferred to first fill bourbon casks and rested for a further eight years. In 2019 the time had come, the Glen Scotia Whiskey was bottled in 700 milliliter bottles at the age of 45. No filtration was used in order to preserve the character of the old whiskey as much as possible.
Glen Scotia 1973/2019 tested at age 45
The limited edition of the 45-year-old Glen Scotia whiskey is described with the following tasting note: On the nose, the original Glen Scotia bottling shows 45 years of maritime elements. Basalt soaked in sea water is replaced by a full-bodied fruity aroma of ripe pineapple and crunchy green apples. This is followed by floral notes, vanilla and finally toasted oak tones. On the palate, the Glen Scotia 1973/2019 is almost viscous. An oily veil covers the tongue and lets caramel sweetness emerge first. Then juicy tropical fruits follow. Pineapple, mango and watermelon are framed by vanilla and honey. The departure of the 45-year-old Limited Edition is long-lasting. The freshness of sea salt and citrus fruits is magically captured by ginger and cinnamon. This is a very old single malt whisky, which is expected to increase in value. Because Glen Scotia is known worldwide and such a bottling will not be available again any time soon.
